You're probably aware that growth and development differs from child to child. Infants and toddlers do not all roll over, crawl, walk, talk, use a spoon, etc. at the same age or in the same way. There are, however, specific developmental milestones that typically developing children achieve during the first few years of life, and usually within just a few weeks or months of their same-age peers. Professionals, parents, or caregivers may grow concerned when an infant or young child is not developing, growing, or learning as expected. Concerns may be related to the way the child thinks, learns, or solves problems (cognitive development); speech/language; self-help skills; motor (movement) development; or social-emotional development.
At Pediatric Early Intervention & Developmental Services, we provide skilled, compassionate, professional and supportive therapeutic, developmentally appropriate services to help families and caregivers support the best long term outcomes for children. If you are concerned that your 0-5 year old or a 0-5 year old that you work with or care about is not developing or learning as expected, you are not alone. The CDC estimates that 1 in 6 infants and toddlers has a developmental delay. Early intervention is crucial. Pediatric Early Intervention & Developmental Services (PEIDS) can help you understand and get started with determining if your child qualifies for early intervention services. Please reach out to us by calling (843) 284-9929 as soon as possible. Anyone can make a referral, and we are happy to support you through the referral and screening process. There is never a cost to families to serve eligible children.
